Job Summary

The GBV expert's major job and obligation is to oversee the overall technical and programmatic coordination of GBV prevention, response, and management programs for IDPs and host communities. The GBV expert's major responsibility is to offer technical leadership, capacity building, and program creation to guarantee the efficient execution and coordination of GBV-related programs aimed at both IDPs and host communities within the organization's humanitarian portfolio.

Major roles and responsibilities.

  1. Conduct extensive evaluations to identify GBV-related needs, hazards, and current protective measures among IDPs and host communities.
  2. Create and execute targeted GBV preventive and response strategies that take into account the IDP and host communities' specific vulnerabilities and settings
  3. Provide technical assistance and capacity-building support to local service providers, community leaders, and other stakeholders on GBV-related issues, with a focus on survivor-centered, gender-sensitive, and trauma-informed methods.
  4. Establish and improve multi-sectoral GBV referral routes to enable survivors can access and coordinate assistance in both IDP and host communities.
  5. Create and implement community-based GBV awareness campaigns, educational programs, and outreach activities for a varied range of audiences, including women, girls, men, and boys.
  6. Conduct safety audits and work with community members to identify and reduce GBV hazards, especially in locations where IDPs and host communities interact.
  7. Provide direct psychological support, case management, and access to specialist services for GBV survivors in the IDP and host communities, with a survivor-centered focus.
  8. Develop relationships and strengthen engagement with key government agencies, local and international NGOs, and community-based groups to improve the entire GBV prevention and response system.
  9. Collect, evaluate, and use sex and age-disaggregated data to drive evidence-based programming, detect trends, and track the efficacy of GBV treatments.
  10. Contribute to the creation of GBV-related policies, standard operating procedures, and guidelines to provide a consistent and rights-based approach in both the IDP and host community settings.
  11. Provide technical assistance and capacity building to other team members while actively participating in overall program design, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting initiatives.

Reports to the Branch Manager.

Salary: Negotiable and based on the organizational scale.

Terms of employment: 9-month contract with option of extension dependent on budget availability and performance.

Education

BSc/MSc/PhD in Social Work, Development, Gender Studies, Psychology, or a similar field of study.

Work Experience

8/6/4 years of relevant experience, mostly working on humanitarian activities.

Skills and competencies
  • Strategic thinkers have shown the capacity to put strategic plans into action.
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize oneself and others.
  • Sympathy with the goals and objectives of OSSHD.
  • Language: Proficient in English
